2026 is when 2001-build Japanese vehicles begin qualifying for U.S. import under the 25-Year Rule. Each month unlocks new icons—from R34 GT-R M-Spec and Evo VII to S15 Silvia, DC5 Integra Type R, and Stagea M35.
How the 25-Year Rule Works
- FMVSS exemption: Eligible 25 years after the exact build month.
Example: Built March 2001 → eligible March 2026. - EPA: 21+ years old are federally emissions-exempt.
- California: Separate CARB compliance/registration rules apply.
Tip: Verify the build month in FAST for Nissans, or other resources online for other cars. Registration year doesn’t determine eligibility. If you don't have a good resource, then date of first registration is your safest bet
