How to Import a Vehicle from Japan (or Overseas)
If your vehicle is already located in the USA, we encourage buyers to inspect it in person or send an inspector. If your vehicle is overseas, we can arrange for inspection, purchase, transport, and shipment to the USA.
Before purchasing an unknown vehicle at auction, we strongly recommend a professional inspection. Not everything that goes through the Japanese auto auction system is worth buying — condition, history, and hidden issues matter.
Step-by-Step Vehicle Sourcing & Import Process
- Fill out the vehicle request form below and tell us what you are looking for (year/model, budget, and timeline helps).
- Our team confirms sourcing options, estimated import costs, and timeline based on your request.
- To begin active sourcing and Japanese auction monitoring, we collect a $2,500 refundable program deposit. This deposit functions as a program credit and is applied toward your first vehicle purchase. If you decide not to proceed before a vehicle is purchased, the deposit is refundable.
- Once you select a vehicle to bid on or purchase, a 50% deposit is required to secure the bid/purchase.
- When the vehicle is won or purchased, the remaining balance is due prior to export shipping.
Import Cost Estimate (Beyond Vehicle Purchase Price)
Most customers should plan for an additional $4,500–$6,500 on top of the vehicle price depending on origin, shipping method, and destination. This includes major items such as export processing, shipping, customs brokerage, and import fees.

Current U.S. Import Tariff Notes (Japan)
Import tariffs have changed multiple times in 2025. As of September 15, 2025, passenger vehicles imported from Japan are subject to a flat 15% tariff. Truck tariffs remain higher and can differ depending on classification and current policy.
